I was listening to NPR the Diane Rhem Show this morning when I heard the guests talk about the real possiblility that hackers may have infiltrated the U-S electric grid.
I am currently working on various RFP from states and government agencies that are putting out proposals for Health Preparedness Programs for emergency medical supplies as well as emergency food distributions. Considering that disasters can be natural or manmade, every time there is disaster of any size, the power grid goes first then the Internet access.
Still from the federal government to state governments, all RFPs for emergency relief during disaster are now requiring their infrastructure to be based on the internet for all communications, transactions and tracking.
We are aiming for a collective disaster as satellite communications are not yet an integral part of most emergency response structures.
I would love to hear from you on this and how we, the people that will have to live with these bad scenarios, can have an impact and shift this narrow thinking that disasters won’t be that bad here?
